Looking for a unique and meaningful adventure? Consider joining Team Friendship Kilimanjaro, an initiative of Friendship Circle, one of the top Jewish charities and nonprofits.
Located in Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro is the world's highest freestanding mountain, and reaching its summit at 19,341 feet is a personal challenge that requires focus and mental tenacity. Team Friendship Kilimanjaro has given this quest an underlying purpose and goal to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children with special needs. Last year, the team raised over $132,000 for this cause.
On the mountain, hikers not only face the challenge of altitude, but also confront the metaphorical tests of life. With adequate preparation, focus, and mental tenacity, hikers can emerge stronger and overcome adversity to achieve their goals.
The team of 14 jewish hikers who just returned from an hiking Kilimanjaro an unforgettable, life-changing week on the mountain were made up of diverse ages and backgrounds. They studied Chitas and Rambam together and carried a small Sefer Torah. Each day, they derived, discussed, and explored life messages.
On Shabbos, the team set up an Eiruv around the camp and continued to observe their Jewish faith. The hikers shared stories of Divine Providence, Ahavas Yisroel, Shlichus, and connection to the Rebbe and his teachings. The experience brought the mission of Friendship Circle to life.
Reaching the summit is not the endgame. The ultimate moments of success require additional strength and purpose to bring the high moments down, so that they impact on the daily routine. The experience of reaching the summit has enriched the lives of all the members of the team with newfound energy and strength.
